Abstract beach landscape in shades of blue and orange inspired by a local surf spot at the Pacific ocean on the Central Coast of California.

There's a beach on our coastline that the locals know: surfers for the break, everyone else for the sand. It's a great place to sit and have a picnic, play with kids, or laze around for the day.

My dad grew up surfing this break and while I am definitely not the surfing type, we often end up here on the beach side of the water, especially on those rare, blistering hot days when you don't want to be more than five feet from the water and a cool breeze (does anyone around here have AC? No).

The other night, we came down for a late dinner (beach burritos — are you sensing a theme here?) and I got dared to go for a dip. My son was watching so of course I had to do it. I waded out and timed a quick float on my back with a small set coming in. It was freezing…and then it was glorious. I forgot how much I actually like being in the ocean, bobbing up and down with the waves. Maybe I'll have to do this more often…

This print is inspired by that stretch of coastline in Shell Beach, California. A perfect summer spot, but glorious to watch during a winter storm: my second favorite time to come to the ocean.
